From Phyllis Summers’ revenge plot against Diane to Devon and Ashland’s complicated relationship, there’s always something going on in Genoa City. But who is leaving and who is returning in 2022?
Y&R recently added Zach Tinker back to the cast. He’ll reappear as Lauren and Michael Baldwin’s son, Fenmore. The actor previously aired on Days of Our Lives as Sonny Kiriakis.
Michael Graziadei
The Young and the Restless has had some major recasts this year. One of those recasts was Michael Graziadei, who returned to the soap as Daniel Romalotti. He’s been nominated for a Daytime Emmy for his role, so it’s no surprise that he’s back in Genoa City.
Mishael Morgan made a huge impact as Hilary Curtis on the soap. She was a fan favorite for nine years, but the writers ultimately killed her off. Morgan had been trying to negotiate a contract with the show for a while, and it looks like she won’t be returning in 2023.
Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) is another popular character on the CBS soap opera. The scheming redhead has been a staple for the show since 1994, and fans have grown to love her. However, some are wondering if Stafford will be leaving the series in 2023. It’s too soon to tell, but we will keep you updated.
Diane Jenkins
It’s hard to imagine The Young and the Restless without Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). The scheming redhead is an on-screen favorite, and she’s brought plenty of excitement to Genoa City in her time.
The actress has a long history on daytime soaps and even has a Daytime Emmy under her belt for her work on General Hospital. But it looks like it may be time for her to depart Y&R.
Mishael Morgan made waves as Hilary Curtis on Y&R for nine years, but she left in 2018 when the show couldn’t negotiate her a new contract. Since then, the actress has been working in other projects. But now it seems she’ll be returning to her former Y&R roots as an investigative reporter, per Soap Opera Digest. The actress will appear in a handful of episodes starting August 17. Keep an eye out for her!
Rey Rosales
Jordi Vilasuso is a bit miffed about how his Young and the Restless character Rey Rosales was killed off this week. Vilasuso recently shaded Y&R for how the show handled Rey’s exit storyline by having him die in a car crash.
After returning from Afghanistan, Rey reconnected with Sharon and took on a fatherly role to care for her and daughter Lola. He kept in touch with his other children, but when Arturo slept with his sister Mia, Rey was furious. However, he eventually moved on and even helped them get back together.
He also welcomed his old partner Chance (Chance Holt) back to the GCPD, but the cop was struggling with PTSD. Nevertheless, Rey agreed to take Connor and Chelsea to visit their other family in Miami for their honeymoon.
Richard Burgi
In 2022, Burgi debuted on the soap opera as ruthless businessman Ashland Locke and quickly became a fan favorite. But he was only on the show for a couple of months before the writers decided to cancel his character. Fortunately, Burgi has plenty of other acting credits to his name including the sci-fi drama series Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation and guest appearances on Grace and Frankie, Scandal, and Devious Maids.
Mishael Morgan is probably the most controversial departure from the Young and the Restless in 2022. The actress made a huge splash as Hilary Curtis and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2022 but requested to be bumped down to recurring status to focus on her family.
Mishael returned briefly in 2019 but it looks like she won’t be back. The scheming vixen will be replaced by actress Denise Boutte. Kelsey Wang will also be making the switch to recurring status. She’ll appear as Allie Newman in the coming weeks.
