Spending the summer months without an air conditioning unit is hard to imagine. These machines are specially designed to cool the home and working environments. To suit the different needs of individuals, different types of air chillers are available out there. Amongst different air conditioning devices, air-cooled ones are less energy efficient compared to the ones that operate on water. However, unlike water-cooled units, air-cooled chillers are easy to maintain and are less costly. Due to these advantages, most industries, offices, residential, malls, cinemas, and businesses prefer using air-cooled chillers.
Operating Procedure of Air-Cooled Chillers
The most common compressors used in refrigeration are reciprocating, scroll, and screw-driven centrifugal. With various refrigerants, 50 ton chiller used in industry in industrial applications, chilled water or other liquid from the chiller is pumped through the process. Industrial chillers are used for cooling products and factory machinery in a wide range of industries. Chillers are usually small in size (cooling capacity), usually from 1 ton to 100 tons. Central chillers generally have capacities ranging from ten tons to hundreds or thousands of tons.
These air-Cooled Screw Chillers are specially designed to cool the surrounding air and are perfect for commercial or industrial applications. Termed as air-cooled chillers, it would be completely wrong to assume that they do not use water for cooling. While water is used by the integral system, it does not absorb the heat produced from the closed system of the unit.
The air-cooled chillers include an evaporator. They feature a particular liquid substance, which is used for refrigeration purposes. Some tubes are filled with water, they surround the items that need to be chilled. While the pressure is increased by the compressor, the apparatus condenses the water vapor, which then connects back to the evaporator.
The cooling process begins in the evaporator – the liquid refrigerant spreads out the cold to tubes that are filled with water. Usually, these pipes surround the area that needs to be cooled. When chilled water is pumped through these pipes, heat is absorbed, thus causing the area to chill.
The heart of the chiller is the refrigeration compressor. This is a pump that uses electrical energy to pump refrigerant around the system. Depending on the application like size or operating temperature, a different compressor pumping technology is used. Smaller chillers use refrigeration compressors like rotary compressors, scroll compressors, and reciprocating compressors. Larger 50 ton chiller use refrigeration compressors like reciprocating compressors, screw compressors, absorption compressors, and centrifugal compressors.
Applications of Air-Cooled Screw Chiller
They are often used in the plastic industry in plastic processing like injection molding, blow molding, extruders, laminations, PP Films, rigid PVC Pipe, calendars, chemicals, pharmaceutical process, dyes intermediates, mineral water soda process, paper converting, coating chill rolls, plating and anodizing, lubricants/oil cooling, dairy, bakery, food products, dehumidifier, conditioned air, welding equipment, cement processing, vacuum systems, x-ray diffraction, analytical equipment, compressed air, and gas cooling.
Air-Cooled Screw Chiller is most commonly used in laboratories to:
Cool the hot plastic that is stamped, injected, or blown extruded in the plastic industry. These chillers are also used to cool down the machines that are mostly used in the manufacturing process. Sophisticated chillers are also used in high-powered electronics machined, such as PET and MRI, and also in new diagnostic tools.
The printing industry also makes good use of chillers. They help remove the heat that is generated by printing rollers. Chillers are also useful in cooling the paper that comes out from the ink drying ovens. They can also be used for cooling lasers and the power supply source used for powering them. Irrespective of the type of air cooler you use, ensure that you perform timely servicing to maintain their efficiency.
