Anne Rice’s revolutionary gothic novel is getting the TV treatment. Game of Thrones actor Jacob Anderson stars as Louis de Pointe du Lac, while Sam Reid and Bailey Bass star as his vampire companions Lestat de Lioncourt and Claudia.
At the start of the series, journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) interviews Louis about his life as a vampire. He wants to know if they can die—and Louis explains that only beheading, burning, or drinking the blood of the dead kills them.
Jacob Anderson
Jacob Anderson, best known as Grey Worm in Game of Thrones, stars as Louis de Pointe du Lac in Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire TV series, which is slated to air on AMC and AMC+ this fall. The series is being directed by Rolin Jones, with Rice and her son Christopher serving as executive producers.
The show picks up some 50 years after the events depicted in the film, with journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) now a jaded reporter struggling to crack the story of vampire love and barbarism that Louis de Pointe du Lac so desperately wants to tell him. Anderson is a formidable actor, finding the stoic but vulnerable man beneath the vampire and his lust for Lestat.
Anderson is also a talented singer and rapper who released his first EP under the stage name Raleigh Ritchie in 2014. He is a frequent collaborator of Emilia Clarke, having appeared on the ITV drama series Adulthood as Omen and the one-episode guest role in Game of Thrones as Gun Shy.
Sam Reid
Taking on the role of Lestat de Lioncourt is Australian actor Sam Reid. Reid has been acting since 2007, when he first appeared in the Australian medical drama All Saints. He’s also starred in the movies Belle and The Newsreader.
The series will follow Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, which was previously adapted as a 1994 movie starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. This new adaptation will be a TV show on AMC, with Jacob Anderson playing Louis de Pointe du Lac and Bailey Bass as Claudia, a child vampire who joins Louis and his fellow immortals. The cast also includes Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy, a journalist nearing the end of his career who interviews Louis about his 200-year-old life.
Fans of the books and the film might have been skeptical about the AMC TV version, but the first episode has exceeded expectations. The cast has proven that they can handle the material, and the chemistry between Reid and Anderson is strong.
Eric Bogosian
Unlike some of the other Anne Rice adaptations that have graced the small screen (and big screen), this one has actually been pretty good so far. It has a nice fresh take on the classic story, and the actors seem to be getting into it, too.
It stars Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) as Louis de Pointe du Lac, the brooding vampire, Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt, and Bailey Bass as young newcomer Claudia, who becomes part of Louis and Lestat’s unconventional vampire family. The show’s creator, Rolin Jones, is an alum of shows like Friday Night Lights and Boardwalk Empire, and executive producers include Mark Johnson from Better Call Saul and Anne Rice’s son, Christopher.
Eric Bogosian is in the cast as Daniel Molloy, the journalist to whom Louis recounts his saga. Christian Robinson and Kaylne Coleman round out the recurring cast. The first season of Interview with the Vampire has seven episodes, and is available to watch through November on AMC and online.
Bailey Bass
Bass’ performance received critical acclaim, especially for her portrayal of Claudia, the character originally brought to life by Kirsten Dunst in the 1994 film adaptation. Her work elevates the show and makes it one of the most popular on AMC, but she won’t be able to continue as the series returns for season two.
Bass will leave the role of teen vampire Claudia for season 2, with Delainey Hayles replacing her. Production on the eight-episode season begins next week in Prague, with additional filming in Paris and New Orleans. Several cast members from the first season will return, including Jacob Anderson (Louis de Pointe du Lac) and Sam Reid (Lestat de Lioncourt), along with series regulars Eric Bogosian (Daniel Molloy), Assad Zaman (Armand), and Ben Daniels (Santiago). Previously, Bass has appeared in movies Moon and Sun and The Jenkins Family Christmas, as well as an episode of Law and Order. She will also appear in James Cameron’s 2022 movie Avatar: The Way of Water as Tsireya.
