So many choices, so little knowledge. Choosing which class to take in Path of Exile can feel like being stuck in a rock and a hard place.
Let’s be real for a second here. All the classes in Path of Exile have good paths; it’s just a matter of choosing which one fits your playstyle the most. Choosing which one is the easiest class to take is typically a tough call to make for players it’s a rather subjective topic. One of the first choices that they get to make in Path of Exile is which class they’d like to play. With six classes available from the start of the game and one more that they get to unlock during the campaign, players ought to first think about the fantasy role that they want to fulfill, not just how fast they’ll be able to farm PoE currency such as Exalted Orbs. The great thing about Path of Exile is that the choices are broad enough that players can pinpoint exactly what they want. Whether it be casting spells, shooting arrows, or bashing enemies with a hammer, the choice is ultimately theirs. However, it helps to have an idea of what playstyles they’d like to excel in that’ll be following their class.

Marauder
The Marauder is a health-stacking tank class that’s arguably one of the easiest classes to choose if you’re still a greenhorn in Path of Exile. The build paths for the Marauder class are usually melee-exclusive since it’s a strength-based class. This results in the Marauder primarily taking health skill nodes. Keeping this in mind, players don’t have to worry about dying too quickly in the game should they choose to be a Marauder since they’ll be capable of taking large hits and regenerate their health quickly. The only downside that’s noticeable when playing as a Marauder is that the damage output is a tad lower when compared to other classes, but it’s a pretty good trade-off considering that they’ll have increased survivability. Plus, at the very least, the damage of the Marauder is consistent. Although keep in mind that the Marauder’s clear speed isn’t as great, so expect the process of farming PoE currency like Exalted Orbs or doing mobs to take longer.
If you’re worried about the class faltering during the endgame, fret not, because the Marauder is well-suited for late-game boss fighting purposes. This is due to the beefier health bar that the class has, so players can worry less about taking damage and just focus on the action. For those that want to deal more damage, it’s possible to do so. There are a few build paths that allow players to do a significant amount of damage even with a high defense stat. What’s more, there are a couple of build options that focus on passive damage dealing as well such as using auras or totems. Overall, if you’re the type of person that just wants a low-risk class and become unkillable during late game, then the Marauder class is for you.

Duelist
Melee classes have always been known as the easiest to start with since you won’t die as much while leveling, and luckily, the Duelist is one of them. A damage-heavy class that has a wide array of new player-friendly builds, the Duelist is a swordfighter that is best known for favoring playstyles that specialize in doing heavy single-target damage which is arguably for doing boss killing quests and runs. Since the Duelist is a hybrid class, it’s able to utilize Dexterity and Strength attributes, resulting in the skill nodes gearing towards the use of melee weapons, skill gems, and attacks. Ranged builds are even possible for the Duelist!
The Duelist class is perfect for players that are itching to do single-target damage. With a fairly decent leveling speed and a large life pool but doesn’t compromise the damage output to do so, it’s the perfect choice for those that want to deal high DPS but without the risk of being too squishy.

Witch
Primarily using Intelligence, the Witch is a caster class that uses ranged necromancy or elemental damage attacks. Thanks to the class’ ease of access to caster skill nodes and affinity for spell-based skill games, the sheer number of spells that a player can collect can easily amount to more than a hundred. The Witch can also use damage-over-time skills and aura spells. Since ranged classes tend to be more fragile, most players that play as the Witch use an energy shield as their sole defense mechanism, but in turn, the shield is capable of reaching up to 10,000 added the defense to their life bar.
The Witch is the class to take if you’re the type of person that wants a caster-like playstyle, minions/zombies to take control of, and to have an option to sacrifice your damage for increased survivability and vice versa.
In A Nutshell
Each of the character classes in Path of Exile has easy options, but for a newbie that has no idea what to expect and no PoE currency to their name, then the Marauder, Duelist, and the Witch class are the best to pick from.
